The leaves have started to fall, the weather is turning colder and it is getting dark earlier. Fall is here! Although, if you’ve been reading my blog, I’m sure you know that already. The one and only thing I like about the Fall is the flavors that come out of it… such as the pumpkin and sage in this recipe. The cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves help out too. They are a natural combination that works wonders together. They compliment each other immensely. OH and when you add browned butter to that – they become AMAZING.  If you’ve never browned butter before, you should try it. Elise from Simply Recipes has a great blog post on how to make it. Browned butter is exactly what you think it is – butter that has been cooked until it turns brown. It enhances the flavor of anything you use it in whether you are making a sweet or savory dish.

These cupcakes were unforgettably moist; words cannot describe them. This was a fairly straight-forward recipe once you get past the first step of making the browned butter. After that you whisk up all the dry and wet ingredients in separate bowls and combine them. Martha likes simple recipes as well as intricate ones. This is one of those easy ones because you don’t need a Kitchenaid mixer – just two bowls and a whisk.

The only thing I did not do was make Brown Butter icing for these gems. I made these cupcakes as a birthday gift along with a full dinner for my best friend Sylvia and 7 other people. I only had so much time to prepare everything before heading to her house with my surprise. Store-bought whipped vanilla frosting was what I opted to dress these with, even though they are decadent enough on their own. It worked for me though!

This month’s recipe was picked by Monica at My Cupcake Journey. I thank her for choosing such a great recipe at the most perfect time of the year. She didn’t happen to post the recipe on her blog so you are going to have to buy Martha Stewart Cupcakes for yourself. Or you can go to this awesome blog called Handle the Heat where Tessa has the recipe. Check out how my fellow bakers did here. Tutti Mangia!
